Heron Island Resort in Australia is seriously committed to preserving their island, including marine animals, birds, nesting turtles and the surrounding coral reef.
The island is located on the Great Barrier Reef and runs its own power generation, potable water production and waste water treatment. The island was awarded Advanced Eco-Certification by Ecotourism Australia.
Upon arrival on the island, guests are provided with tips on how to care for and respect the environment they are in. Interpretive Activities guides organize a variety of guided walks, hands-on workshops, video and slide-show presentations, as well as night sky watching through a telescope.
Rooms start at 191 Australian dollars per person per night. Visit the Heron Island web site for more.
