The Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, Maine composts organic waste, recycles sheets into kitchen aprons, and conserves energy.
The hotel's outdoor pool is filled with saltwater. Most produce for the restaurant comes from local farms.
If you suffer from chemical sensitivity to non-ecological detergents, there is no need to worry. The hotel uses non-toxic cleaning materials in the kitchen and housekeeping.
The hotel has also eliminated most plastic trash can liners, all aerosol products and styrofoam food containers.
All guests are invited to leave their own suggestions for further greening the hotel. These are considered by the Colony Hotel Ecology Group.
Rooms in June, July and August start at $360/night.
